Technical Transparency, Not a Badge

No certification claims we cannot back up, only the numbers we can prove

We are not certified organic or Fair Trade yet. The trees are wild-grown and no pesticides are used, simply because none are available or affordable in the region, but we have not paid for the paperwork to prove it formally. We would rather tell you that honestly than put a badge on the site we cannot back up.

The African regional standard for unrefined shea butter

Three types are recognized under the ARSO-ORAN standard for unrefined shea butter. We test and sell against Type 1, the tightest tier.

Type 1 (Grade A)FFA <1.0% (will not turn rancid in your formulation), moisture <0.05% (will not spoil in transit), peroxide value <10 (fresh, not oxidized)
Type 2FFA 1.0–3.0%, moisture 0.05–0.2%, peroxide value 10–15
Type 3FFA 3.0–8.0%, moisture 0.2–2.0%, peroxide value 15–50
Melting point32 to 40°C across all types

Why We Test Every Batch

Handmade shea butter varies more than industrial batches, so we test more, not less

Handmade shea butter naturally varies more between batches than industrial solvent-extracted butter. We manage that by testing every single batch rather than sampling occasionally, so you see the real number for what you are buying, not an average.

Questions about the specifications

Free fatty acid under 1% and moisture under 0.05%, the top tier under the African regional standard for unrefined shea butter (ARSO-ORAN). That is the number we test every batch against.

Each batch is tested for FFA, moisture, and peroxide value before it ships, and the results go out with your Certificate of Analysis.

Yes. Commercial and Enterprise orders include a Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet alongside the COA, the same three documents European buyers require by default.
